Successful networking can take a lackluster real estate business and make it shine! Whether you’re a seasoned real estate agent or a rookie, you know that networking is vital to your success in the business. By networking, you can get to know people who you can help in the business, and who can potentially help you in return. After all, there’s truth in the old adage: It’s not what you know, but who you know. So, you’ve joined the local Chamber, a handful of business & service organizations and social media groups in the hope of building business relationships, generating leads and turning them into clients. You’re doing it right! And, by implementing some of these fun tips, you can give your professional networking a little extra “oomph” and help raise your career to the next level:

Step It Up

Since you’ve already seen the benefit in joining organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, or PTA, why not take it a step further by running for an office or serving on the board of directors for the organization(s) of your choice. Join a committee that is relevant to what you do like departments of planning & zoning and housing. You’ll have a greater impact on the community and will become more well known and respected in your field. There’s no better way to check the pulse of a community than by getting involved!

Work Events

The organizations that you’re active in will often have opportunities to work at county/state fairs, job fairs, trade shows, etc…Think outside of the box. For example: If you want to target people looking for a first-time home, working a booth at the state fair or a PTA convention would be a great place to meet young families. Different organizations may also sponsor seminars and workshops relevant to your business. Offer to speak or teach a breakout session further anchoring yourself as a trusted professional.

Collect Cards

In this age of technology, business cards still work! You always want to have plenty of your business cards to pass out at networking events. However, make it a habit to collect other people’s business cards as well. This gives you the power to reach out to them and initiate business. Be professional and courteous by letting new contacts know when they can expect a call or an email from you, then stick to it. If some of the cards are potential leads, don’t let too much time go by before reaching out.

Be Interactive

Social media is a powerhouse when it comes to marketing your real estate business. You’re most likely on a few popular platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. Stay on top of your social media! Respond to everything!  Make your followers feel like they are important to you and that they’re insiders to something special. If someone comments or asks a question, acknowledge it promptly. Take time to read, comment and share other people’s posts as well. This shows you’re interested in the lives of your social media friends and followers.

Take Five

You’re likely to run into a lot of the same people at networking events like Chamber “After Hours” or business luncheons. While it’s important to maintain business relationships with people you already know, try not to spend a lot of time visiting with the same groups of people. You want to go out of your way to meet new people at every event.  A good rule of thumb at social events is to spend about five minutes talking to people that you know, then move on to mingle with the crowd and meet new people.
