Removing the Proctoring Requirement

As of September 3, 2025, the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) will no longer require proctoring for final exams in both Pre-License and Sales Agent Apprentice Education (SAE) courses. Starting that date, students can take their course final exams without scheduling with a proctor.

Please note that for Pre-License students, the state licensing exam through Pearson VUE remains proctored as usual.

Open Book Course Exam

In addition to removing the proctoring requirement, TREC has also confirmed that course final exams are now open book. While you may reference your course materials during the exam, we encourage you to challenge yourself to complete the test without relying on notes. This approach will help ensure you’ve truly mastered the material and are fully prepared for the state licensing exam, which remains proctored and closed book.

What If You’re Already Enrolled?

  • If you take your final exam before September 3, 2025, you must still complete it with a proctor.
  • If you take your final exam on or after September 3, 2025, your exam will not be proctored.

So, whether you’re currently enrolled or planning to sign up, rest assured that as long as your exam is taken on or after the September 3rd deadline, you’ll benefit from the new rule.
