The New Jersey Real Estate Commission (NJREC) requires New Jersey real estate agents, both salespersons and brokers, to renew their licenses every two years. If you do not renew by the deadline, your license will become inactive, and you will no longer be able to practice real estate. Renewals take place in odd-numbered years (such as 2025), so it’s crucial to take the following steps to complete your New Jersey real estate license renewal and maintain your active license.

#1: Complete the Education Requirements

There are two ways to complete the NJREC education requirements: 12 hours of continuing education courses or a broker pre-licensure education course. While the New Jersey real estate license renewal is due by June 30th of every odd-numbered year, the education requirement must be completed by April 30th. If you miss this deadline, you will incur a $200 late CE processing fee. It may take up to 10 days for your course completion to be confirmed by the NJREC, so plan accordingly.

You are exempt from this requirement if you initially earned your license between July 1 of the year prior and the upcoming renewal deadline. For example, those licensed between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025, are exempt from this year’s education requirements.

12 hours of approved CE courses, including the following:

  • Fair Housing & NJ Law Against Discrimination – 1 hour
  • Ethics– 2 hours
  • Other Core Topics – 3 hours
  • Electives – 6 hours

These courses are meant to keep agents up-to-date on industry regulations and practices and competent in delivering quality real estate service to clients. They’re an investment in yourself and your business! License Classroom will automatically submit your course certificates to NJREC within 1-2 business days after you complete them. You can keep focusing on your clients and growing your real estate business!

#2: Submit Your Renewal with NJREC

You must submit your completed New Jersey real estate license renewal application by June 30th of every odd-numbered year to maintain an active license. There is a $150 fee for salesperson renewals and a $250 fee for broker renewals. As part of the renewal process, you’ll need to submit your own questionnaire to verify your eligibility to renew. Once you’ve completed the questionnaire and required CE courses, your broker can submit your license for renewal to the NJREC.
