Ready to embark on or continue your Texas real estate journey? One crucial step is navigating the proctored exam requirements for the pre-license and SAE courses. The end-of-course exams help test your understanding of the concepts you learn, ensuring you’re able to properly assist your clients and build a successful career. In this post, we’ll outline TREC’s proctored exam requirements, how best to prepare, and how License Classroom provides a convenient and comprehensive solution for you.

TREC Proctored Exam Requirements

To ensure the integrity of the end-of-course exams and maintain the real estate profession’s standards, TREC mandates that both pre-license and SAE final exams be proctored. This means that an authorized proctor must monitor you during the exam to prevent cheating and ensure a fair evaluation.

TREC has approved two methods for proctoring real estate exams:

  • In-Person Proctoring: Traditional proctoring involves the physical presence of a proctor overseeing the exam in person.
  • Online Proctoring: TREC has authorized certain online proctoring services to monitor your exams remotely.

PSI is the primary proctoring service approved by TREC for Texas real estate exams. They offer a secure and reliable platform for online proctoring, ensuring the integrity of the exam process.

How to Prepare for a Proctored Exam

The pre-license and SAE course final exams are multiple-choice and occur at the end of each 30-hour course. You are not allowed to use any notes or resources and will have 2 hours to complete each proctored exam. There are typically 60 questions, and you’ll need a score of at least 70% to pass. Once you pass the exam, you’ll sign an affidavit to verify your identity. Preparing for a proctored exam requires careful planning and preparation. Here are some key tips to help you:

Technical Requirements: Ensure your computer system meets the minimum technical requirements for online proctoring. This typically includes a webcam, microphone, and stable internet connection.

Scheduling: To secure a convenient time slot for your proctored exam, schedule it in advance. You can schedule your proctoring time slot right in our online learning platform.

Best Practices: Familiarize yourself with the proctoring guidelines, such as proper identification, a clear desk environment, and avoiding course notes during the exam. Make sure you have a quiet, distraction-free environment to maintain your focus.

In-Person Proctoring Alternatives

While online proctoring is the preferred method for many real estate students, TREC also allows in-person proctoring from the following:

  • Faculty or staff members of the educational provider
  • Employees working at official testing centers or learning/tutoring centers
  • Librarians from schools, universities, or public libraries
  • College or university administrators, faculty or academic advisors
  • Clergy affiliated with specific religious institutions
  • Educational officers at military installations or correctional facilities

You may use any of these in place of the online proctoring we provide to you through PSI if you wish.
