How Much Does a Virginia Real Estate License Cost?

Virginia Real Estate Education
The Virginia Real Estate Board requires aspiring agents to complete a 60-hour pre-licensing course. Exam Fees
After completing your pre-licensing course, you must pass the Virginia Real Estate License Exam administered by PSI. The exam consists of 120 questions split between a national and a state-specific section. You may retake the exam as many times as needed at a cost of $60 per attempt. A passing score of 70% or higher is required on both portions of the exam.

Application Costs
Once you’ve passed the exam, the next step is to submit your application to the Virginia Real Estate Board. The application process includes a required fingerprint-based background check. This costs $50 and is processed through IdentoGO. After completing the background check, your sponsoring broker can submit your application on your behalf. The total application fee for Virginia real estate is $170.

REALTOR® Association Dues
While not required, consider joining a local REALTOR® association for additional like networking, industry recognition, and professional development. When you join a local association, you are automatically enrolled in the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and the Virginia REALTORS® group. Expect to pay an initial application fee and a prorated annual fee based on when you join. Ask your brokerage which local association they’re a member of to learn more about the fees and application process.
