How Much Does a New Jersey Real Estate License Cost?

We’ll guide you through the cost of your initial investment, from the pre-license course to the exam and application fees.
New Jersey Real Estate Education
The New Jersey Real Estate Commission (NJREC) requires you to complete a 75-hour pre-license education course. This course covers essential topics like real estate principles, license law, contracts, appraisals, financing, and more to prepare you for a successful career. License Classroom conveniently offers all 75 hours of the New Jersey pre-license course online and includes exam prep for the final license exam. You can work on the course at your own pace, from anywhere with an internet connection.
In addition, NJREC requires the course to be followed by a third-party proctored exam. We’ve partnered with PSI to offer this to you at an affordable cost of $25 per attempt.

Exam Prep
Some prospective agents find the New Jersey Real Estate License Exam challenging, and it’s common to take multiple attempts to pass. Exam Fees
You must pass the license exam with PSI within one year of passing your pre-license course final exam. The New Jersey Real Estate License Exam consists of 110 questions, divided into a national and state portion. You’re allowed an unlimited number of retakes at $38 per attempt. You must pass both the national and state portions with at least 70% to proceed.

Application Fees
NJREC requires a fingerprint-based background check for your license application. You’ll need to schedule this with IdentoGO for a $66.05 processing fee. Once that process is complete, your sponsoring broker can submit your application to NJREC on your behalf. A $160 application fee is due along with your supporting application documents.

REALTOR® Association Dues
While not required, consider joining a local REALTOR® association for additional benefits like networking, industry recognition, and professional development. When you join a local association, you are automatically enrolled in the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and the New Jersey REALTORS® (NJR) group. Expect to pay an initial application fee and a prorated annual fee based on when you join. Ask your brokerage which local association they’re a member of to learn more about the fees and application process.
